
JOSEPH LUND
When Joseph Lund was born on 15th October 1881 in Great Marsden (Now Nelson) Lancashire, his father William Lund was 33 and his mother Tabitha Lund (nee Roberts) was 30. He had one brother, John William Lund, born 22nd August 1886 also in Great Marsden.
(John William Lund is also interred in this cemetery but in a different grave along with his parents William and Tabitha Lund. See under other Lund graves)
At the age of eight in 1891 Joseph, his parents and his now 4 year old brother, lived at; 8 Herbert Street in Great Marsden.
In 1901 when Joseph was aged 18 the family had moved to; 4 John Street in the mill town of Barnoldswick, which at that time was in the West Riding of Yorkshire. Both Joseph and his brother John William are recorded as being employed as Cotton Weavers, as also was their Father, now aged 53.
In 1903 on 29th December Joseph, now aged 21 years, old married Eva Woffenden in the church of St Mary le Ghyll, Barnoldswick, adjacent to this cemetery. Local girl Eva, aged 19 and living at at 4 Westgate Barnoldswick, was the Daughter of David and Maria Woffenden. Her Father being recorded as the proprietor of a local Grocers shop.



Joseph and Eva welcomed the birth of their son Wilfred Willis Lund on 5th June 1904, at home, while the couple were living at; 14 Smith Street Barnoldswick. Sadly Wilfred Wills Lund passed on 4th February 1905 having only reached the age of 10 months. At the time of his passing the family, having moved since the birth, were living at; 48 Townhead, Barnoldswick. A second son, Joseph Richard Lund was born on 15th May 1906 at home at; 48, Townhead, Barnoldswick but a second tragedy was to befall the family when Joseph Richard Lund passed, at home, on 21st March 1907 aged just 11 months. Joseph Richard is interred in this grave along with his parents and siblings.
Third son Horace Lund was born, at home, at 3 Queen street Barnoldswick. Horace Lund went on to live a good life finally passing 27th May 1975 at home at 4 John street t the age of 67 years. Horace is interred in this cemetery in a separate grave along with his wife Gladys Lund, formerly Hodgson who he married 24th December 1936. Horace and Gladys went on to raise two children; Joseph Trevor Lund and Roy Stephen Lund
A Daughter Myra May (Known as May) Lund was born on20th September 1910 at 3 Queen Street Barnoldswick. May lived to the age of of 49 passing on 25th July 1959 at home at; 5John Street, Barnoldswick, her ashes were also interred in this grave following her cremation in 1959.
May became Myra May Williams when she married Frederick Williams om 11th May 1940 at the age of 29 years. The couple were married at the Spiritualist Church, Albert Road Blackpool The couple went on to raise one Daughter, Pamela Elise Williams.
In 1911 the family were still living at 3 Queen Street Barnoldswick. Joseph was now 28, Eva was 26, Horace was 2 and Myra May was just 6 months of age. Eva's Brother John Woffenden aged 22 was also living with the family. Joseph is still recorded as being a cotton Weaver and Eva's Brother John as a Bread Baker.
On 14th May 1912 another Son, Wilfred Lund was born at 2 Queen Street. Sadly Wilfred was destined to live only a very short life and regretfully passed on 22 November that same year aged just 7 months. Wilfred passed at home at 4 Skipton Road in Barnoldswick, where the family had moved home to earlier in the year.
A second Daughter, Elsie Lund, was born on 4th February 1915, at 4 Skipton Road Barnoldswick and although later in life moving to Rochdale Lancashire where she passed on 21st December 1989 in Rochdale and where she was cremated, her ashes are interred in this grave along with her parents and siblings and the ashes of her husband James Albert Marshall MBE. The Couple had two sons, Graham Ernest Lund Marshall born 11th July 1945 and David William Joseph Marshall born 16th May 1956. More information can be found under the individual names.
Joseph's Mother, Tabitha Roberts passed 3rd June 1917 having reached the age of 66 years, at, No 4 John Street Barnoldswick and is interred in yet another family grave along with her Husband and Joseph's Father, William Lund, who passed at the age of 73 on 23rd May1922 at; 4 John Street Barnoldswick. That grave is also located in this cemetery and also holds Joseph's Brother John William Lund.
It is worth noting here that 4 John Street had been occupied by 4 generations of the Lund Family and to this day is still owned by a 5th generation. In fact at one in the 1940's into the 1950's the Lund family owned and lived in the whole of John Street ( 5 Houses) and 8 Westgate which was built onto the end of John Street. Perhaps it should have been renamed "Lund Street"
The 1921 Census shows that the Family had moved to; 20 Townhead, Barnoldswick and show Joseph, now 38yrs of age as a Grocery and provisions dealer, own account, trading at 43 Townhead Barnoldswick and Eva employed as a Cotton winder employed at James Nutter & Sons, Bancroft Mill Barnoldswick. Horace, Myra May and Elsie were still in full time education.
Josephs wife Eva Lund passed at Nottingham General Hospital, on 14th November 1933 at the age of 47. They had been married for 29 years.
William Lund passed on 23/05/1922 at 4 John street Barnoldswick.
Joseph moved to Blackpool along with Daughters Myra May and Elsie, although the exact date is unknown as yet. Joseph was the proprietor of a Boarding house at; 99 Coronation Street Blackpool (Now known as The Arden Hotel) which he ran along with his two Daughters Myra May and Elsie.
Joseph finally passed at 12 Havelock Street Blackpool, just around the corner from Coronation Street, on 3rd June 1940 when he was 58 years old.
Joseph is also interred in this grave.
